Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant legislation, documentation, policies and procedures

implements procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient implementation of surface mine mechanical plant management plans including:

providing team leadership

identifying and addressing training needs

implementing hazard identification and risks assessment processes

managing work planning and coordination activities

accessing, interpreting and applying manufacturer’s instructions

using effective communication

accessing, interpreting and applying:

technical information

site/legislative requirements

records and reports

briefings and handover details

data from monitoring systems and equipment

works effectively with others to undertake and complete the implementation of surface mine mechanical plant management plans including:

managing people and processes

resolving conflict

coordinating human, financial and physical resources

developing, initiating and administering work plans

interpreting and applying operational/implementation performance data

engaging internal and external stakeholders

demonstrates completion of the implementation of surface mine mechanical plant management plans that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

identification of the relevant information and scope of the work

identifying the full range of surface mine mechanical plant

identifying and implementing all aspects of the management plans

implementing the hazards and risk control options and measures

managing the audit and review processes for maintenance and the surface management plan

identifying the interrelationship with mechanical equipment in the surface environment

implementing options to control hazards and risks relating to mine mechanical plant and equipment, including:

fire protection and prevention

lifting and towing systems

storage of hazardous substances

interrelationship

between people and mechanical equipment


Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge in implementing the surface mine mechanical plant management plan through:

legislative, organisation and site requirements and procedures for;

mechanical plant and equipment operations

emergency response and disaster planning processes

audit review

mechanical engineering standards

safety critical function of mechanical equipment

energy sources, including protection and reticulation systems for electrical, hydraulic, compressed air, diesel

mine fires; the types, sources of ignition and possible impacts on plant and equipment

computer based systems relating to the monitoring, and operation of mine mechanical plant and equipment

firefighting systems

specifications for mine plant and equipment
